Justice Ken Wise was appointed to the 14th Court of Appeals by Governor Rick Perry in October 2013. Prior to his appointment, Justice Wise served as the Judge of the 334th Judicial District Court in Harris County and Judge of the 152nd Judicial District Court in Harris County. Justice Wise, a fifth generation Texas, traces his ancestry back to the Republic of Texas in 1836. He was born and raised in Houston and attended Texas A&M University where he competed on the intercollegiate rodeo team. He attended law school at the University of Houston and practiced law for 8 years before taking the bench as Judge of the 152nd and 334th District Courts.
Justice Wise is an avid Texas historian. He hosts the award-winning Texas history podcast “Wise About Texas” which has over 750,000 downloads in 141 countries worldwide. He is an adjunct professor of history and government at Houston Baptist University. He has written several journal articles and given dozens of speeches on all aspects of Texas history.
A native Houstonian, Justice Wise is a director of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and an advisory director of the Former Texas Ranger Foundation.
