About this event
Abbie Markowitz is the Coordinator for the Alexander Institute of Inclusion and the ReelAbilities Houston Film and Arts Festival, showcasing the talents of individuals with disabilities, and driving initiatives to foster inclusivity. With a B.A. in Business of Creative Enterprises from Emerson College and an M.S. in Hospitality Management from the University of Houston Hilton School, she brings a unique blend of business acumen and passion for social impact. Since joining Alexander Jewish Family Service in 2023, Abbie has dedicated herself to disability advocacy, empowering individuals and promoting a more inclusive society.
ReelAbilities, founded in New York in 2007 and presented in 11 cities across the world, is the largest festival with a global effort dedicated to using the arts as a vehicle to educate, celebrate, and change perceptions about individuals with disabilities.
ReelAbilities Houston, hosted by the JFS Houston Alexander Institute for Inclusion, in collaboration with the Houston Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities, launched locally in 2013 and is considered to be the most creative and innovative Festival of its kind in the country, having expanded from hosting films with post-screening discussions to including art and music events as well as online film screenings and discussions.
